Older Adults Mental Health

Our Older Adults Mental Health Advocacy Worker works with adults over 65 with a mental health/dementia diagnosis. They can help you to understand your rights and express your views if you are subject to:

  • Detention under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003
  • The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000
  • The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007

They can assist you if you have issues with your care and support whether that be in hospital, a residential/nursing home or your own home.

If you have difficulty communicating with health/social work/care professionals they can accompany you to meetings and appointments, write letters on your behalf and attend reviews.

They can also act in a non–instructed way if the adult doesn’t have the capacity to express their views, making sure their best interests and rights are represented.
