Older Adults

Our Older Person Advocacy Worker works with anyone over 65 and can help by:

  • Discussing your rights and options.
  • Explaining things you don’t fully understand.
  • Getting you information.
  • Assisting you to write letters.
  • Assisting you to fill in forms.
  • Accompanying you to meetings and appointments.

Our Older Persons Advocacy Worker can support you when you are dealing with NHS and social care services, with housing issues, assist you to access your medical records; assist you to make contact with care agencies, with getting a solicitor where required; assist with funeral plans and Powers of Attorney to name but a few.

Our Older Persons Advocacy Worker will always be guided by you and will only help in ways you want. She is there to be on your side and help you express your views.

Our Older Adults Mental Health Advocacy Worker works with adults over 60 with a mental health/dementia diagnosis. She can help you to understand your rights and express your views if you are subject to:

  • Detention under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003
  • The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000
  • The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007

She can assist you if you have issues with your care and support whether that be in hospital, a residential/nursing home or your own home.
If you have difficulty communicating with health/social work/care professionals she can accompany you to meetings and appointments, write letters on your behalf and attend reviews.

She can also act in a non–instructed way if the adult doesn’t have the capacity to express their views, making sure their best interests and rights are represented.
