Mental health
We are able to work with people of all ages in Aberdeen
who live with a mental disorder.
The Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 gives everyone with a mental disorder a right to independent advocacy.
IN THE COMMUNITY
We work with people who are in the community as well as in hospital.
WE ARE INDEPENDENT
We are independent and accessible and are able to visit people in their homes in Aberdeen when necessary.
AVAILABLE OPTIONS
We will discuss the options a person has in connection with their care and treatment, housing, etc. and signpost them to access services.
APPOINTMENTS
We are able to attend appointments with a person and help them to understand the options they have. They can then make their own decision based on this information.

- Principles of Advocacy -
Advocacy has two main themes
Safeguarding individuals who are in situations where they are vulnerable.
Speaking up for and with people who are not being heard, helping them to express their own views and make their own decisions.
How you can help
Are you a good listener? Could you help someone speak up for themselves?
