Independent advocacy for older people.
ASA also provides independent advocacy for older people. Our older people’s advocacy worker, Sandra, is based in an office at Woodend Hospital, but can visit people anywhere in the city, including in people’s homes.
We can help you in many ways:
- Discussion your rights and options
- Explaining things you don’t fully understand
- Helping you get information
- Helping you write letters
- Helping you fill in forms
- Accompanying you to meetings and appointments.
Sandra can support you when you are dealing with NHS and social care services, with housing issues, etc.
She will always be guided by you and will only help in ways you want. She is there to be on your side and help you express your views.

- Principles of Advocacy -
Advocacy has two main themes
Safeguarding individuals who are in situations where they are vulnerable.
Speaking up for and with people who are not being heard, helping them to express their own views and make their own decisions.
How you can help
Are you a good listener? Could you help someone speak up for themselves?
