Children and Young People with Additional Support Needs

 


Some times it is difficult to let others know how you are feeling.
It can be frustrating when people do not listen to you.

 

Advocacy Service Aberdeen is a free, confidential, independent advocacy service based in the centre of Aberdeen. In January 2009, ASA received funding from Children in Need to offer an advocacy service to children and young people between five and eighteen years with additional support needs. We can offer advocacy support in many areas; for example, where there are concerns with education, physical or mental health, family life or access to services.

Helen and Kate are children’s advocacy workers at ASA. They can:

  • Help children and young people to be involved in decisions that affect them.

  • Support and empower children and young people to develop their own advocacy skills.

  • Make sure the child’s voice is heard and that others listen, understand and respect what they have to say.

At all times in the advocacy/client relationship it is the child or young person who makes the decisions. Kate and Helen are loyal to the child or young person they are supporting and their aim is to safeguard that child or young person’s rights.
